My background.
I was a late starter, being 22 years old when I started singing.
Now I am 50+. From the late start it took of very fast. As early as three years after I started singing, I had my first solo concerts. Because of being an adult, when I started, I can easily remember what getting knowledge meant for my singing. From the start I remember the feeling and aha experience when I first became aware what it meant to sing in pitch. I remember what it was like – not to know. It was like trying to find way in a dark room. Luckily it was easy for me to transform the new knowledge to practice. I had a serious problem though; my voice became hoarse very quickly. Different teachers did not mention the issue – but then I met Kathrine Sadolin. I was her student for quite a while and I went to other amazing teachers too. I wrote a lot of songs and recorded a CD and was very busy being a singer-songwriter. I have always been seeking new knowledge. I wanted to know how things work and what they are made of and this is not only for singing and music, it is for all aspects of life. I like to communicate my knowledge and experiences to other people. I like to pass on the joy of singing, so it was a natural thing for me to start teaching. It is now more than 25 years since I started teaching. My pedagogical approach is that I believe knowledge is the base for remembrance. If you do not know why you are doing something, it is easier to forget. If you do what your teacher tells you to do, it will have a good effect on you. Throughout my career I have been teaching on all levels and I still find it amazing to teach students from the beginners level, to the top professional. This gives me a wide experience in what problems a student can have – even though all students are unique. I became more and more aware that the mental condition plays a big role in how your voice sounds. The mental condition has influence on how open and free of tensions you can sing. I found out that working with the deep breathing techniques could open up for mental processes. So 15 years ago, I decided to take a 5-year psychotherapeutic education. Body, soul and voice are connected. On top of that I also have an education as masseuse, hypnotherapist and hypnotist. I work with people who want to be seen and heard, but on the other hand not want to be revealed.
Business concept.
The idea for 123vocal.com came up because I saw things go a little too slow for of the students. Most of them get lessons every fortnight and that is a long time to study without help. My first idea was to make a kind of animated book, with theory and exercises that could help the students learn more, have fun and keep up the motivation. All-important parts of learning to do things correctly. In my earlier experiences, I have seen students having trouble getting their exercises done – they would need a “guiding hand” to help them. In this new concept you will get your teacher at home. The exercises you can do over and over again. 123vocal.com has a lot of theory and a lot of animated films you can follow on screen. To begin with, you do the same as the figure you see on the screen, but after a while you will get it integrated in your own body and it becomes a new pattern for you. You will also find lessons for auditory training and rhythm.
Inspiration
I have a great interest in communicating and a desire to tell the world that everyone can sing! Only a few become stars – but the joy of singing can be for everyone. We should sing more.
I think we would all be happier if we sang more. It is not easy to be grumpy while you sing.
I believe there are some people, who do not dare to go to a teacher, because NO-ONE must hear them sing. Using this site they can start all by themselves and then maybe later go to a teacher. When they are no longer embarrassed over their lack of skills and have learned that even their voice can sound great. Things you haven’t learned yet will always be difficult.
There is a growing interest in becoming a solo singer and many try their luck in talent shows on TV. It requires some technical skills and knowledge to sing at this level and I would like to make these things available for you.
I would also like to cooperate with other teachers who could make use of the things I offer on 123vocal.com for their students.
What has made this possible….
It has been so much fun trying to make this site as good as possible, but it has also taken so many hours, that it would be impossible to count – blood, sweat and tears – but also fun and pride when something difficult, turned out to be better than expected.
I have found it interesting to learn how to film, edit, draw and produce animated films.
It would not have been possible to pay someone to make this site for me. Not because of the money, but because my knowledge and experience is so much linked to creating the films that no-one else could have done it. Only through the experience from many students, I have a feeling of how much time, knowledge and exercise I can put in each lesson.
I have a very close friend, Michael, who´s also a singer and web-designer. He has also been a part of the project. As for me, it is a life project for him. We both works on the project for free and have been doing it for a long time now. That is the only way it could be done. If I should have bought a complete production of this kind, it would have been very expensive and there would only have been one way to finance it – through payment from my students.
We met a young man who has many followers on the Internet, and he is very experienced in all the techniques on the Internet. His name is Jacob. He told me that there is a lot of people asking for educational sites like mine. He will also help creating a streaming site for online education.
Promotion costs money, so to make the site known for people who would like to learn to sing, I have to spend some money on advertising. This is why you have to pay for using 123vocal.com.
The price is fair and it works as a subscription.
We have thoroughly considered pros and cons. I have been thinking: will someone think that getting educated through a webpage can harm the voice? But on the other hand, has it ever harmed anybody’s voice to read a book about singing techniques? If a student is in doubt or feels that it is not right, the student can go to a teacher and I will encourage the student to do so.
The education is created so it should be harmless, but of course it is the students responsibility to take care and not to overdo exercises.
What we want is to make learning to sing as fast, fun and understandable as possible.
When it comes to more complicated education I recommend the students also go to a teacher to make sure everything is correct.
We hope we have created a site where you can find knowledge and exercises and we hope you also will find it to be a fun and lively way of learning the art of singing.
We hope that the site will give every hopeful singer a chance to get better through theory knowledge and exercise.
We hope this site will keep on growing and we hope it will become a place for joy and happiness. We hope to get subscribers from all over the world – we hope that we get great feedback so we can make the site even better.
I love to teach and we want to support everyone who wants to learn to sing and be who they are and be confident. We would like you to love to sing – just as much as I do
Your sincere
Hanne Lynge
